Heartland Britain

Britain has a strong tradition of supporting charities and quite often shows and dances are held to raise funds for charity.

This photo is from a show which a local amateur theatre group is to stage to support the local lifeboat station. The show will probably attract a good audience because most of the people in the local community support the lifeboat station.
The crew is made up of local men who have volunteered to serve on the lifeboat and are not paid for it. They have to work within easy reach of the lifeboat station because they can be called out to an emergency at sea at any time of the day or night.
This is `heartland’ Britain, one of the many community-minded small towns and villages which in some ways are the real Britain. Most of the population is British-born but there is a small minority of immigrants, mostly from Poland.
