Buying a laser printer

It can be quite difficult to choose a laser printer; this article describes some of the factors that might influence your choice of printer but they aren’t the only factors to consider; personal circumstances and personal attitudes can also influence your decision

Laser printer speeds, the speed at which a laser printer can print a page, vary considerably.
It’s a well-known fact that one factor that will influence speed is the type of content that is being printed – it’s well-known that it will take a printer longer to print a page that contains plenty of images than it does to print a page that contains mostly text.
It’s a fairly well-known fact that the printer’s memory will have an effect on these speeds; a printer with plenty of memory will usually print faster than a printer with less memory, because it can process the data that is being transferred from the computer faster.
So is buying a laser printer just a matter of choosing a model that, according to the manufacturer, prints at a certain speed? Is it also just a matter of choosing a model that has the most memory?
Of course not. If this were the case, there would not be so many laser printers on the market, there would only be a few.
The reason why there are so many laser printers available is because customers demand other options, as well as printing speed and memory.
Quite often these other options are unrelated to technical specifications – they are about personal circumstances and personal attitudes.
